Organizers of the prestigious award made this known on Sunday in a press statement obtained by TheCable Lifestyle.

The duo would be receiving the award alongside Idowu Phillips, Nigerian actress better known as Iya Rainbow.

According to BON, the special recognition would come in honour and celebration of their “hard work, tenacity, and steadfastness over the years in ensuring that the Nollywood is at the forefront and at par with industries around the world.”

“For the eleventh consecutive year, Best of Nollywood Awards, BON, has again chosen to recognize and celebrate the Nigerian movie industry practitioners with awards focusing on their hard work, tenacity, and steadfastness over the years in ensuring that the Nollywood is at par with industries around the world,” the statement read.

“Recognising the contributions of some veteran thespians, the organisers of the prestigious industry award would be specially recognizing Sadiq Daba, popularly known for his role as ‘Inspector Waziri’ in October 1; Idowu Philips, whose stage name is ‘Iya Rainbow’, and Ngozi Ezeonu, a popular actress with over 150 movies to her credit.”

Daba, a multiple award-winning actor, who once worked as a broadcaster for Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), came to prominence in the late 1970s, following her role in ‘Cockcrow at Dawn’, an agriculture promotional drama produced by Peter Igho.

Iya Rainbow, on her part, worked as a professional nurse in general hospitals across Nigeria for several years while occasionally playing similar roles in theatres.

While Iya Rainbow is popular for her roles in ‘Apaadi’, ‘Eru’, and ‘Aje Ni Iya Mi’ and other Yoruba movies, Ezeonu starred in ‘Adesuwa’, a role that earned her the ‘Best Supporting Actress’ nomination at the 8th Africa Movie Academy Awards.

In September, BON had announced Ramsey Noah, Mercy Aigbe and Toyin Abraham as nominees for its 2019 awards season — ahead of its alumni party, which held in the same month.

The main event is billed to hold on December 14.
