Cristiano Ronaldo, the Manchester United footballer, and Georgina Rodriguez, his partner, have lost one of their newborn twins.
The pair announced the toddler’s death in a post via the five-time Ballon D’or winner’s Instagram page on Monday.
The post described the loss of the baby boy “as the greatest pain any parent can feel.”
The couple also thanked the medical team for their “care and support” before the toddler’s demise.
“It is with the deepest sadness that we have to announce that our baby boy has passed away,” the post read.
“It’s the greatest pain any parent can feel. Only the birth of our baby girl gives us the strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness. We would like to thank the doctors and nurses for all the care and support.
“We are all devastated at this loss and we kindly ask for privacy at this very difficult time. Our boy, you are our angel. We will always love you.”
The 37-year-old football star already has four children before the couple announced, in October 2021, that they were expecting twins.
Ronaldo has a daughter Alana, 3, with Georgina, 28. He also has a son Cristiano Jnr, 11, and Eva and Mateo, who are also twins aged four.
Ronaldo and Georgina have been together since November 2016.
