Robert De Niro, Oscar-winning actor and his wife of more than 20 years have separated.
People magazine reports that the 75-year-old actor and Grace Hightower have been living apart for some time.
De Niro got married to Grace Hightower in 1997 after first meeting in a restaurant where she worked as a hostess and have two children together.
“Sometimes things don’t work out the way you hope or want them to,” a source close to the family told People magazine.
This is not their first breakup as the Godfather II actor filed for a divorce in 1999. They reunited and renewed their wedding vows in 2004.
The marriage is De Niro’s second and he has two children from his first marriage to actress Diahnne Abbott between 1976 and 1988.
He also has two children with his former girlfriend, Toukie Smith.
De Niro is popular for movies like The Godfather Part II, Raging Bull, Taxi Driver, Cape Fear, Casino and Goodfellas.
In October, he made headlines when he was among critics of President Donald Trump who were sent bomb packages. None of the devices exploded.
“I thank God no one’s been hurt, and I thank the brave and resourceful security and law enforcement people for protecting us,” he said, responding to the threats.
“There’s something more powerful than bombs and that’s your vote. People must vote!”
