Rita Edochie, the actress, says “Nigeria will never know peace” if Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), is not released.

Kanu has been in custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since his arrest and extradition from Kenya to Nigeria in June 2021.

The IPOB leader is on trial for treasonable felony.

In October, a federal high court in Umuahia, Abia state, faulted his extradition and ordered the federal government to return him to Kenya.

In an Instagram post on Monday, Edochie lamented the continued detention of the IPOB leader.

The film star called on the people of the south-east to unite and demand for Kanu’s release.

She also argued that the south-east can never achieve its push for presidency without the support of Kanu.

“The continuous detention of mazi Nnamdi Okwu Kanu will keep dividing Nigeria. So long as Mazi Nnamdi Okwu Kanu is still being detained, Nigeria will never know peace. Ndi Igbo I laugh, ndi Igbo wake up. Onye Igbo can never smell presidency without Mazi Nnamdi Okwu Kanu,” she wrote.

“It is a spiritual thing. Fight for your own first and God will finish the battle. Ndi Igbo let nothing happen to our great brother Nnamdi Kanu because it’s going to be our worst experience. Chukwu okike abiama is waiting for Ndi Igbo to act. God is not sleeping.”
