Risikat Ajoke Adegeye, a politician and wife of Sunny Ade, the Nigerian music maestro, has passed away.

Adegeye, who was a former lawmaker at the Lagos state house of assembly, died in the early hours of Tuesday.

The cause of the politician’s death is unknown as of the time of this report.

Adegeye represented Amuwo-Odofin constituency 1 at the Lagos assembly from 2011-2015.

She was a one-time chairmanship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Amuwo Odofin LGA.

Adegeye died a day before the 75th birthday of her husband. She had six children with the iconic musician.

George Folarin, one of her children, confirmed her passing in a statement released on behalf of the family.

“We wish to formally inform, friends, well-wishers, political associates, and the general public that Hon Risikat Ajoke Adegeye passed on after a brief illness during the early hours of Tuesday, 21st September 2021,” it reads.

“Hon Risikat Ajoke Adegeye was an Honourable Member in the 6th Assembly of the Lagos State House of Assembly. She will be greatly missed not only by her immediate family but also by her political associates and followers.

“Further information in respect to her burial ceremony will be announced later after extensive consultations with the family.

“Thank you as we pray that she continues to rest peacefully and eternally with the Almighty God.”

SANWO-OLU MOURNS ADEGEYE

Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Lagos state governor, described Adegeye as a trustworthy and committed member of the ruling party.

“The death of Hon. Risikat Adegeye is a painful and big loss to Lagos APC, the deceased family and friends,” he said in a statement issued by Gboyega Akosile, his chief press secretary.

“She will be missed by her husband, King Sunny Ade, family, friends and the entire political class, particularly the people of Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area.

“I pray that God would grant the soul of our beloved Mrs. Risikat Adegeye eternal rest and comfort the immediate and political family of the deceased.”
