Woah Vicky, the US influencer, has sparked reactions on social media after saying she witnessed “widespread poverty” during her visit to Nigeria.
Born Victoria Rose Waldrip, the social media celebrity, who spent part of the festive season in Lagos, revealed in a recent X post that her experience in the country prompted her to speak out about the nation’s “struggles and the need for support”.
The American influencer, who also faked her kidnap in Nigeria, said her visit exposed her to the “high level of poverty and the people’s struggles”.
The 24-year-old said despite the city’s vibrant nightlife and clubs, she couldn’t help but notice the stark contrast between the affluence of some areas and the dire living conditions of many Nigerians.
“I recently visited Lagos, Nigeria, and while it’s known for its nightlife and clubs, I couldn’t help but notice the bigger picture. So many people there are struggling with hunger and poverty—it’s heartbreaking. It’s sad to see visitors focusing only on the parties when there’s such a clear need for help,” she wrote.
“Nigeria needs prayer, missions, and tangible support, not just tourism for entertainment. Let’s pray for this country and find ways to contribute to real change.”

Woah Vicky saw poverty and hunger in Lagos. Yet, lied about being a victim of kidnapping as a white American woman?
Knowing the ramifications if the State Department or U.S. Embassy began looking for her could’ve resulted in the deaths of Nigerians.
Her post is damage control. https://t.co/i5hmZUFgap pic.twitter.com/tKFbSuvux4

Prayers for the people to wake up and vote right in the next election. That’s all we need.
Thanks for your observation. However, please next time, don’t lie that you were kidnapped. Don’t feed into our troubles as a nation https://t.co/h6Tv7NuMBc
