Ebiye Victor, Instagram comedian, has provoked argument on social media after he shared a new skit in which he insinuated that 9ice was “secretly happy” that Burna Boy did not win the 2020 Grammys.

The controversial comedian had taken to his social media page on Monday to share a video where he depicted how 9ice would have reacted to Burna Boy’s loss to Angelique Kidjo at this year’s Grammys.

In the video, the comedian can be seen in a car listening to ‘Street Credibility’, a hit track off ‘Gongo Aso’, an album released by 9ice in 2008.

In the lyrics of the song, the talented singer promised to “bring back home a Grammy” — a feat he has been unable to achieve till date.

Ebiye, making an impression of 9ice, then receives a call where he is informed of Burna Boy’s loss and can be seen celebrating after the call while ‘Gongo Aso’, another song off the same 2008 album, can be heard blasting through the speakers.

The skit has, however, stirred a heated debate on social media platforms especially Twitter, where users are registering their differing opinions.

While a number of users appeared furious at the comedian’s lack of respect, others came to the defence of Ebiye, advising critics “not to take things too seriously”.

“Ebiye is funny but that skit ain’t right Shading 9ice and Burna at the same. The message he’s trying to pass across in the skit is that “You’re happy your friend didn’t win” That’s a very bad concept to think of,” a user said.

“9ice is not dead, so don’t doubt him. He’ll bring you Grammy one day,” said a user.

“It’s funny how you’re trolling 9ice but you seem to forget that street credibility and gongo aso, those two tracks are greater than your entire career as a comedian,” another user wrote.
