Ibrahim ‘Primeboy‘ Owodunni, a friend of the late singer Mohbad, has taken legal action against the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) for allegedly violating his fundamental human rights.

On October 4, 2023, the Lagos state police command declared Primeboy wanted for failing to respond to a summon regarding the investigation into Mohbad’s death.

Primeboy, however, surrendered himself to the police the following day.

In a statement on Thursday, Akinpelu Ogunbona, Primeboy’s lawyer, revealed that his client is seeking a court order to have his name removed from the police’s wanted list.

The lawsuit, according to Ogunbola, was filed on October 11 at the federal high court in Ikoyi, Lagos.

The lawyer said the special police bulletin declaring Primeboy wanted “violates his right to dignity and respect as a human being”.

The suit further requests the court to declare the police action unconstitutional, demanding that Primeboy’s name be delisted and the bulletin retracted.

“Primeboy has sued the police via an originating motion filed before the Federal High Court,  Ikoyi, Lagos on October 11,” the statement reads.

“He prayed to the court for a couple of reliefs, some of which included a declaration that the special police gazette bulletin issued by the office of the IGP declaring Primeboy wanted was a contravention of Primeboy’s right to respect for the dignity of his human person.

“Primeboy also prayed the court to delist his name from the wanted list amongst other prayers”.

Since Mohbad’s death on September 12, 2023, Primeboy has been at the center of public attention.

Recently, he threatened to sue Mohbad’s mother for defamation, accusing her of falsely claiming that he had an altercation with her son before his passing.

He also filed a petition against Omowunmi, the late singer’s widow over “false allegations”.

Mohbad passed away on September 12, 2023, under mysterious circumstances and was buried a day later.

His body was exhumed on September 21, 2023, for an autopsy at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), but the report revealed no significant findings.

However, Mohbad’s family has since rejected the autopsy results and commenced an independent investigation to uncover the true cause of his death.
