The Performing Musicians Employers Association of Nigeria (PMAN) has finally broken the over 40 years jinx of existing without its own property.
Pretty Okafor, president of the association, announced the acquisition of the multi-million naira edifice situated in Lekki axis of Lagos state.
In a statement, the association said the building will serve as its corporate office.
PMAN added that the move is part of the association’s strategy for the ongoing biometric card registration drive being implemented in conjunction with Zenith Bank.
In his remark, Okafor said the corporate office will reposition and rebrand the association and bridge the gap between PMAN and the new generation artistes.
“We consider it necessary to have a business office that is accessible to the artistes community and corporate sector in Nigeria. We want to ensure that musicians are receiving proper remunerations for their creative works both home and abroad,” he said.
“Through the acquisition of this property, we are sending an important message to Nigerian musicians and the corporate sector that PMAN, the Nigerian music industry powerhouse, is back in business.”
The PMAN president also spoke on the decision of the national working committee (NWC) of the association to situate its corporate office in Lekki.
“You know, our former rented office was located in Ikeja but we decided to acquire our own property in Lekki. Its a deliberately made decision because Lekki is the new hub for the Nigerian music industry,” he added.
“It is the hotbed for the new wave Afrobeats culture. Lekki is where the Gen Zers of Nigerian entertainment reside.”
According to Okafor, the corporate office is a fully detached 5-bedroom duplex equipped with different ultra-modern facilities such as digital music library, radio station, conference rooms, and a VIP lounge.
He added that the date for the official unveiling of the new PMAN headquarters will be announced via the association’s website.
