Portable, the controversial singer, says he was “not arrested” by the police in Ogun as widely reported.
In a statement shared on his Instagram page on Saturday, the singer argued that he honoured the police invitation to the station.
Portable said he is confident the police will conduct a proper investigation into the assault allegation against him.
“Remain calm as everything is in control. We writing this for those reaching out to us Portable wasn’t arrested he went to the police station himself to honor the invitation of the police,” the statement reads.
“Police is our friend we trust and believe the force will carry out their investigations and everything will be done appropriately We are positive that all will go well as he is with the commissioner of police (CP) and the issue is being (sic) attended to.”
On Friday, the Ogun police confirmed the arrest of Portable over an alleged assault.
The arrest came after the expiration of the 72-hour ultimatum given to him to turn himself in.
Abimbola Oyeyemi, the state police spokesperson, said the singer is detained at the state headquarters of the police in Eleweran, Abeokuta.
“Yes. He was arrested today. Just this evening,” the police spokesperson told TheCable Lifestyle.
It is understood that the singer will be charged to court next week.
