The police broke the news in statement on its Twitter page on Thursday.

The statement, which identified the arrested officers as Tijani Olatunji and Gboyega Oyeniyi, said that they are currently at the Lagos state CID detention facility in Panti, Yaba.

The NPF said efforts are ongoing to arrest others involved in the case, adding that appropriate punishment would be meted out on those found culpable at the end of its investigation.

“Following investigations into the dehumanizing treatment of a female citizen as shown in a viral video on Wednesday, 22nd July, 2020, the Nigeria Police Force have identified three (3) police officers and one (1) civilian accomplice who participated in the unprofessional act,” the statement read.

“Two (2) suspects, ASP Tijani Olatunji and Inspr Gboyega Oyeniyi have been arrested for their role in the discreditable conduct and incivility to a member of the public.

“They are currently being detained at the Lagos State CID detention facility, Panti, Yaba. Preliminary investigations show that the policemen who are attached Area ‘A’ Command, Lion Building, Lagos, were on legitimate investigation activities to Ibadan, Oyo State where the incident took place.

The officers were said to have carried out a raid at the apartment of an alleged kidnapper in Ibadan, Oyo state capital, wherein they met the lady.

Towobola, who was said to be a lover to the arrested suspect, was nabbed in the process and consequently handcuffed while one of the officers could be seen asking her series of personal questions.

The grilling took a different dimension with questions ranging from “if the suspect is a virgin”, “how many people she had slept with,” and “why she dumped her first lover to sleep with a criminal”.

The footage had since generated heated controversies on social media platforms, while many had earlier called on appropriate authorities to investigate the alleged harassment.
