Josephine Otabor, the 2022 Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) winner popularly known as Phyna, has apologised to the public over her controversial statement on abortion.
In January, Phyna revealed that she has had two abortions in the past.
“But I don’t do sugar daddies and force small small boys to sleep with me and hoeing around with disease at least I am not barren due to drugs,” she had said.
During an interview in September, Phyna also said “there is no woman that has not had an abortion”.
In a recent question and answer session on her Instastory, Phyna said “only virgins are safe”.
She said contraceptives, pregnancy prevention pills and measures are all forms of abortion.
Her statement, however, provoked controversy on social media, including a heating clash with Princess Onyejekwe, another ex-BBNaija housemate.
In a statement via her Instagram page on Friday, the reality star said she was misunderstood by the public.
Phyna also said she did not mean to “project abortion on every female gender”.
“I write this statement to address the issues concerning my interview about a very sensitive topic and I inaccurately suggested “all” women have engaged in it,” she wrote.
“Firstly, I will like to address the fact that in as much as I was misunderstood, I didn’t mean to project it on every female gender. I will never encourage abortion.
“I admit that I was being too expressive in the heat of the interview hence my assertions. I will reiterate that abortion is not a thing I stand for and I should not be seen in that light and I admit to all mistakes made.
“I want to use this medium to thank my fans, family and friends for their constant love and support, I don’t intend to let you down.”
