Toyin Lawani, the Nigerian fashion entrepreneur, has pushed the boundaries of creativity with her latest design — a dress made from dollar notes for Jamaican songstress Spice.

Lawani, 42, known for her unconventional approach to fashion, shared pictures of the dress on Instagram, revealing that it was crafted in just three days for Spice’s Vevo UK performance.

To create the unique piece, the fashion designer, born Toyin Ajoke Muyinat Lawani-Adebayo, said she started with a blue gown. She then clipped dollar notes onto the dress to achieve the desired look.

“Imagine her in Yaba market right now, I know she will go home naked. Making the dress in 3 days was one hella stressful. I had to make sure the money pop well,” she wrote.

“So I had to create a base and clip the money on top, so it shows the bills well. While reflecting the spice factor, it is blue color under the base of the dress.”

However, the dress has sparked debate over the legitimacy of the currency used, leaving many to wonder if the dollar notes are real or counterfeit.

Lawani’s impressive portfolio includes designs for numerous celebrities using unconventional materials like balloons, cutlery, fried chicken, paper bags, and crayons.

Spice, 42, on the other hand, is a Jamaican dancehall deejay, singer, and songwriter.

Born Grace Latoya Hamilton, the self-proclaimed ‘Queen of Dancehall’ is recognised as one of the most prominent dancehall artistes in the world.
