The 2024 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) nominees party was recently held at the United States consulate in Lagos.

The event themed ‘Afrobeats Royalty’ was hosted by MTV Base.

The VMAs nominees party was a rich celebration of Afrobeats’ trailblazing talents driving the industry forward and cementing their place in music history.

In his speech, William Stevens, the US consul general, highlighted the global strides Afrobeats has made and its role in strengthening the cultural bond between Nigeria and the United States.

The occasion featured high-energy performances by some of Nigeria’s talented musical acts.

The guests went wild as Ayo Maff performed his chart-topping hit ‘Dealer’. Dotty the Deity mesmerized the audience with a soulful rendition of ‘Forever Sweet Valentine’, while Zadok got everyone moving with a medley of iconic Afrobeat anthems.

Pheelz also took to the stage to deliver an electrifying performance of his smash hit ‘Finesse’ featuring BNXN.

Celebrities who graced the event include Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, Cohbams Asuquo, Director Pink, E-Money, Leo Dasilva, and Fiokee.

Others are Dorathy Bachor, Uti Nwachukwu, Saskay, VJ Adams, and Candy Bleakz.

Last month, the nominees for this year’s MTV VMAs were announced.

Burna Boy, Davido, Lojay, Tems, Ayra Starr, Tyla and Pheelz were nominated under the ‘Best Afrobeats’ category.

Tyla was also nominated for two other categories ‘Best New Artiste’ and ‘Best RnB’.

The MTV VMAs will be held on September 10 at UBS Arena, New York.
