The old students of St Barnabas Secondary School, Kabba in Kogi state have marked the college’s 60th anniversary in grand style.

The grand finale of the week-long event was held on Saturday and featured several activities including fundraising for the school’s development, and commissioning of projects facilitated by the old students.

In his address, Olusola Adubika, national president of the old students, commended the school’s strides over the years.

He also lauded the contributions of the alumni association which were incorporated in 2017.

“From the innocence of our days of yore, we have now grown to become mature and highly experienced individuals having gone through the processing, reformation, and refining of life’s crucibles,” he said.

“It is heartwarming to note that members of this noble association are making waves and impacting their immediate society, the Nigerian space and the global community at large in all fields of endeavours with their unblemished and impeccable records.”

Adubika urged the alumni to do more to uplift the standards of infrastructure in the school.

On his part, Solomon Adebola, the vice- chancellor of Adeleke University, Ede in Osun state, lamented the lip service paid to the educational sector by successive administrations in the country.

Adebola, who is also an alumnus of the school, called on relevant authorities to have a rethink and reform the country’s education sector.

Projects commissioned during the grand finale include the “rehabilitated school’s library, a block of classes, and ultra-modern toilet as well as the presentation of various items to the school.”

The health committee of the association also offered free health advisories and consultations to staff, students and alumni of the school.

The association also honoured four of its members with lifetime achievement awards for their career strides and impact in society.
