Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello has assumed office as the vice-chancellor (VC) of the Lagos State University (LASU).
The institution broke the news in a statement via its website on Monday.
Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos, had named the professor of physiology as the institution’s ninth substantive VC last Thursday.
In now-viral photos, Olatunji-Bello could be seen making her way into her office while she was flanked by staff and officials of the institution.
The VC also had her first brief meeting with students and staff of the institution outside the varsity’s senate building.
Before her appointment as the VC, Olatunji-Bello has held several professional and administrative positions both at LASU and the University of Lagos (UNILAG).
She is also a member of many professional bodies and was the first female second vice president, Physiological Society of Nigeria (PSN), and the first vice president.
The VC is married to Tunji Bello, Lagos state commissioner for environment and water resources, and the union is blessed with 3 children
Her appointment had come on the heels of a heated leadership crisis that rocked LASU since the tenure of Olarewaju Fagbohun, the institution’s eighth VC, expired on January 11.
