In the now-viral photos, the students were seen clad in different attires during a candlelight procession.

Some of the students were also seen with various parts of their bodies painted.

Sharing photos from the induction ceremony on Tuesday, the varsity wrote on Facebook, “Congratulations to the 100-level and 200-level students of the Department of Theatre Arts of the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Anambra State on their Initiation and Induction into the Department.

“The Department of Theatre Arts in the university community is known for offering academic programmes and practical training in various aspects of culture and theatre.

“The Department is seen as a family and today, they had their anticipated initiation. Once again, Congratulations to the Inductees!!”

The viral photos have continued to elicit mixed reactions on social media platforms.

Some users commended the students for promoting the culture of the country while others argued that the attires look like those usually worn during an initiation ceremony.

In 2021, a similar ceremony by Rivers State University (RSU) sparked heated discussions on social media.
