Peter Okoye has aimed a thinly-veiled dig at viewers of the Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) show, asking if they still remember that Muhammadu Buhari is Nigeria’s president.

The 2020 edition of the show, which spanned 71 days, came to an end on Sunday, with Laycon emerging winner of its N85 million grand prize.

Okoye, a singer and former member of P-Square, a music group he shared with his brother, took to his Twitter page to call the attention of Nigerians back to the country’s political and economical realities.

“Now that BBN is over, hope y’all remember that Buhari is still our president,” the singer wrote.

His tweets come on the back of criticism that has trailed the airing of the reality show. Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife, had described the show as a distraction.

“In the last general election, the total number of vote cast was around 27 million while over 170 million people voted during the 2019 Big Brother Naija reality show,” the monarch had said.

“This is a practical reality of who Nigerian youths are, where our priorities lie. The funny side is we still go to bed, have good sleep, and wake up with the hope to meet a Nigeria we didn’t create.”
