Peter Okoye, Nigerian singer better known as Mr P, has bagged a honorary doctorate degree from ESCAE University in Benin Republic.

The music star broke the news in a post via his Instagram post on Thursday.

He also accompanied the post with pictures of himself adorned in a graduation gown, while flaunting the certificate given to him by the institution.

According to the 39-year-old songwriter, the recognition comes as a result of his “immense contribution to the growth of the entertainment industry in Africa.”

“Dear Team P! It’s a great honour to be decorated by a distinguished educational institution, who have recognised my contribution to dance and music as well as my support for the youth in the entertainment industry. Thank you @escaeakpakpacampus and @escaeunibenin for this honour,” he wrote.

The institution also took to its social media page to congratulate the musician.

The singer was a member of the now-defunct P Square, a music group with Paul Okoye, his twin brother.

The group had parted ways after a disagreement on the role of Jude Okoye, their older brother and immediate past manager.

He had earlier claimed that fans contributed to the group’s collapse by constantly debating on who is better between the pair.

Peter had also revealed that he is making more money now as a solo-artiste than he did under P-Square.

The ‘Smooth Criminal’ singer had in April released ‘The Prodigal’, his debut album as a solo artiste.
