Patience Ozokwo, the ace Nigerian actress, has revealed why she rejected tags given to her earlier in her career.
In an interview with Nwafo TV, the 65-year-old said when she started her career, people began to compare her to Liz Benson, another ace actress.
She said they labelled her ‘Liz Benson of Enugu’ — a description she quickly shut down.
Ozokwo said she did not want the comparison because she believes they are both special and also prefers to forge her unique identity.
“I don’t know how it started, but all I knew was that when I started and people started recognising this woman from Enugu. So there was a time I came to Lagos for a shoot and I came to where we normally gather in Lagos and they started saying hey, that’s the Enugu woman, the Liz Benson of Enugu,” she said.
“So they came and said you are Liz Benson of Enugu. And I was like no, with all due respect to Liz Benson, I do not want to be like her. I want to be myself. I am Patience Ozokwo of Enugu.”
Ozokwo kickstarted her acting career while in secondary school but rose to prominence in 1998.
She has since become a household name in the Nigerian movie industry and has won several awards.
She has been featured in hundreds of movies such as ‘Ukwa,’ ‘Billionaires Club’, ‘Blood Sister,’ ‘Private Sin,’ ‘Wedding Party 2,’ ‘Chief Daddy 2: Going for Broke,’ and ‘Battle on Buka Street’.
