The Government College University of Lahore (GCU), Pakistan, has announced scholarship offer for Nigerians interested in its undergraduate and post graduate studies.
Azim Khan, the head of chancery, Pakistan high commission, made this known in an interview with a NAN on Wednesday in Abuja.
Khan said the scholarship offer covered “all degree programmes,” adding that there were already about 30 Nigerians on Pakistani scholarship studying in the University.
“The scholarship is on first come first serve basis,” Khan said, urging interested Nigerians to apply online at http://www.gcu.edu.pk/foreign_stu.html.
The envoy disclosed that the current scholarship offer would admit “at least 30 Nigerians”.
GCU is a public research university. Its alumni network includes two Nobel prize laureates Abdus Salam and Har Gobind Khorana as well as philosopher Muhammad Iqbal, World Court President(1970-1973) Muhammad Zafarullah Khan, four prime ministers of Pakistan and several Rhodes Scholars.
It is the oldest college in Pakistan as well as one of the oldest institution of higher learning in the Muslim world.
It was founded in 1864 as an affiliate college of Calcutta University.
In 2002, it was granted university status by the Government of Pakistan; the word college is retained in its title for preserving its historical roots.
