Damini Ogulu, Nigerian Afrofusion sensation better known as Burna Boy, has sparked outrage on social media platforms for declaring himself the best in the country’s music industry since Fela Kuti, Afrobeat legend.

In a series of tweets on Wednesday, the ‘Ye’ crooner claimed that he’s the one who paved the way and brought Afrobeat genre to the mainstream where it is currently enjoying the western recognition.

Burna Boy, who lost the 2020 Grammy Award for the ‘Best World Music Album’ to Angelique Kidjo, a Beninese singer-songwriteralso called out his colleagues for being “pretentious”.

His comments, however, did not go down well with users on social media especially Twitter. Quite a number of users have since taken to the microblogging platform to register their annoyance.

“Davido giving credits to Tubaba Psquare & Dbanj, The actual artistes who paved the way for him to be where he is now Wizkid has also done the same But there’s never been a moment Burna boy acknowledged these legends, Man is so full of himself Pride comes before downfall Burna,” a Twitter user said.

“Immediately we finished hyping his sold out concert, spirit of sise sise just entered Burna Boy. He has been acting like a possessed dude ever since then. Trash talking as if he fell from heaven. Have you ever seen a king ruled forever? Only God Almighty is infallible. Calm down,” another user said.
