Chris Rock, the US actor and comedian, has reportedly opted not to host the 2024 Golden Globes.

Nominations for the award ceremony, scheduled for January 7, 2024, were announced on Monday, but the host category was conspicuously absent.

According to CNN, Rock joins a list of notable personalities like Ali Wong, Will Arnett, Sean Hayes, and Jason Bateman who have declined the hosting opportunity.

The news outlet added that Amy Poehler and Tina Fey, Golden Globes’ previous co-hosts, expressed their disinterest in returning in 2024.

A source close to the duo was quoted to have said, “They would never do it (again). They are done”.

Rock last hosted an award event at the 2022 Oscars, which was marred by an onstage incident where he was slapped by Will Smith, the US actor, in response to a joke about Jada Pinkett, Smith’s wife.

In March, Rock said the Oscar stage slap incident with Smith still hurts.

“They say, ‘words hurt’. Anybody that says words hurt has never been punched in the face,” the comedian had said.

“I am going to try to do the show without offending anyone because you never know who might get triggered.”

Smith, however, apologised several times to Rock for slapping him at the 2022 Oscars.

The incident also resulted in Smith’s resignation from the Oscars and a 10-year ban imposed by the Academy.
