The Nigeria Official Selection Committee (NOSC) has invited filmmakers to submit their feature films for the 2026 Oscars.
In a statement released on Monday, the committee said the selected film will serve as Nigeria’s entry for the Best International Feature Film (IFF) category at the 98th Academy Awards.
The IFF Award is conferred annually by the Academy to a feature-length motion picture produced outside the United States which contains 50 percent or more of dialogue in a language or languages other than English.
The NOSC said projects submitted must meet certain criteria, including accurate and legible English subtitles, approved technical specifications, and proof of a theatrical release for at least seven consecutive days between December 1, 2024, and October 31, 2025.
Qualifying films can be submitted between August 13 and September 12, 2025, through the committee’s submission portal.
The 98th Oscars will take place on March 15, 2026, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, United States.
In October 2022, NOSC was beset with a heated crisis as its leadership voted not to enter any Nigerian movie for the IFF award category of the 2023 Oscars after weeks of internal conflict.
The development resulted in a protracted altercation with filmmakers who felt their movies should have been shortlisted.
In 2024, NOSC announced the addition of new members to its returning board, including Ali Nuhu, Blessing Effiom Egbe, Ijeoma Grace Agu, Kene Okwuosa, and Victor Akande, while Stephanie Linus remains the committee’s chairperson.
