Omawumi Megbele has signed a record deal with Cabal Entertainment, a newly launched label.
Tola Odunsi, Obi Asika and Chris Ubosi, owner of Beat FM, are partners at Cabal Entertainment.
“Starting the year at Cabal. Presenting our first and best @omawonder’s new video – Butterflies. Let’s go already,” Ubosi wrote on Instagram.
In a short video released to announce Omawumi’s signing, Ubosi described the soul singer as a “great performer” and one of the “most talented” in Nigeria.
He said: “Omawumi is one the most talented artistes we have here. She’s a great performer, works with bands and has a very strong stage presence.
“Omawumi is the only artiste signed to Cabal at this point in time.”
The mother of two, meanwhile, has released ‘Butterflies’, her first single under the record label.
Ace producer, Cobhams Asuquo, was responsible for the production.
“Thank you @cobhamsasuquo for such a beautiful song. I fell deeply in love with #butterflies when I heard the live strings for the first time,” she wrote on Instagram.
The video for the single was directed by Chris Hernandez.
Cabal Entertainment is affiliated with Roc Nation, owned by Shawn ‘Jay-Z’ Carter, American hip-hop veteran.
Asika, who’s believed to have a stake in Cabal Entertainment, founded Storm Records several years ago.
Naeto C, Ikechukwu, Sasha P, General Pype, L.O.S., Ms Jaie, Tosin Martins, and Yung 6ix were some of the artistes signed to the label.
Most of those artistes have not been active on the music scene in recent years.
It remains to be determined if Storm Records is now defunct.
