The governing council of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has approved the appointment of Olusola Kehinde as the seventh substantive vice-chancellor of the institution.
NAN reports that Bola Adekola, the institution’s registrar and secretary to the governing council, announced Kehinde’s appointment in a statement on Wednesday.
Adekola said the appointment was ratified at a meeting of the council held on Tuesday.
The registrar added that the new vice-chancellor was selected in a keenly contested exercise featuring a total of 14 candidates.
In his remark, Kehinde appreciated the governing council for finding him worthy of the position.
He also promised to promote peace, quality and cut-edge researches aimed at promoting the reputation of the institution.
KEHINDE’S PROFILE
The statement said Kehinde, who hails from Gbagura in Abeokuta LGA, was born on December 22, 1964.
He attended Abeokuta Grammar School, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta South LGA from 1976 to 1981 for his secondary education before proceeding to Ogun State Polytechnic (now Moshood Abiola Polytechnic) in Ojere where he obtained his Higher School Certificate (HSC).
He bagged bachelor and master of science degree in Agricultural Biology as well as a doctor of philosophy in plant breeding and genetics from the University of Ibadan (UI) in 1987, 1990 and 1994 respectively.
The professor became an assistant lecturer in the department of plant breeding and science technology at FUNAAB — formerly known as University of Agriculture — in 1994.
He rose through the ranks and is currently a professor in the same department.
Administratively, Kehinde was the dean, college of plant science and crop production at the institution between 2009 and 2011.
In 2021, he became the deputy vice-chancellor (development) of the institution and was later named the acting VC.
He held sway in acting capacity until his appointment as the substantive vice-chancellor of the institution.
The vice-chancellor is married to Iyabode Kehinde, who is also a professor. The union is blessed with three children.
