Joke Silva, the ace Nigerian actress, has revealed that Olu Jacobs, her husband, is suffering from dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB).
The movie star brought the revelation to light in a recent interview with Chude Jideonwo, the media personality.
DLB, also known as Lewy body dementia, is caused by clumps of protein forming inside the brain cells.
People with the ailment usually suffer hallucinations, cognitive problems, depression, apathy, sleeping difficulty, among others.
During the interview, Joke disclosed that her husband has been dealing with the ailment “for a couple of years.”
The actress also said grappling with the disease has been “hard” on Jacobs as he “doesn’t understand what is going on.”
“He is dealing with issues and it is been going on for a couple of years. It is known as dementia with Lewy Bodies (DLB),” she said.
“First time I’m saying this publicly… it is hard on him because he doesn’t understand what is going on.”
In the past few months, Jacobs has been in the news as some Nigerians continue to express concerns over his health.
The state of his health has also sparked death rumours about him on several occasions.
But the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) had repeatedly dismissed such claims.
Jacobs recently won the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2021 Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF).
