The Guinness World Records (GWR) has certified Ololade Ayelabola, the Nigerian model, as the new record holder for the longest distance walked on a catwalk by a model.
In a blog post on Monday, GWR announced that the model, now a University of Lagos (UNILAG) graduate, set the record by catwalking over 125km.
Her attempt surpassed the previous record of 114.4km, which was set over 40 years ago by Roberta Brown and Lorraine McCourt in Dublin, Ireland, from September 19 to September 21, 1983.
“The longest distance walked on a catwalk by a model is 125.11 km (77.74 mi) and was achieved by Ololade Ayelabola (Nigeria), in Lagos, Nigeria on 1 October 2024,” the post reads.
In a video via Instagram to commemorate her win, the model urged people to pursue their dreams fearlessly and make them a reality.
“Dare to dream and make your dream a reality,” she said.
Ayelabola had earlier revealed that the attempt was inspired by the two-time rejection she experienced from fashion events due to her height.
She added that her goal is to challenge stereotypes, promote inclusivity in fashion, and showcase the creativity of Nigeria’s fashion industry.
Ayelabola’s attempt was held on October 1, 2024 at the indoor sports centre of UNILAG.
During the walk, she modeled outfits from Nigerian designers, including the collection from the UNILAG theater arts department.
Ayelabola also got support from 34 other models on the runway.
