Ime Bishop Umoh, the Nollywood actor better known as Okon Lagos, has called on President Bola Tinubu to leverage the ongoing trade war between the United States and China.
US President Donald Trump last Wednesday raised China’s tariff rates from 104 percent to 125 percent and paused tariffs for dozens of other countries.
In retaliation, China imposed 125 percent tariffs on American products.
In an Instagram post on Wednesday, Okon urged Tinubu to seize the opportunity by attracting brands “victimised” by the trade war to set up factories in Nigeria.
The comic actor cited the country’s “hardworking population and low-cost labour” as strong economic advantages for such a move.
The 43-year-old film star also emphasised that cities like Aba, Kano, Uyo, and Port Harcourt are “ready hubs for such investment,” while reiterating his call for the president to act swiftly.
“President Tinubu, please take advantage of this US-China trade war. Redirect the factories of ‘victimized’ luxury brands to Nigeria,” he wrote.
“Aba, Kano, Uyo, PH will be ready. We have the cheapest labor in the world, and we are a staggering 200plus million hardworking, good people! Tinubu oooo. Take advantage.”
