Odira Nwobu, the Nollywood actor and content creator, has recounted how he survived a deadly accident while traveling from Lagos to Enugu.
Nwobu was involved in the tragic accident last month after accepting an invitation from a real estate company to shoot promotional content in Enugu.
Though the company offered to book his flight and allow him to bring a friend or two, his companions insisted on joining him for the trip.
In a recent social media post, Nwobu recounted the events leading to the crash that claimed the life of his close friend.
The actor revealed that shortly after their journey began, he developed a persistent cough: a recurring issue for him during early morning travels.
He said the group made a stop for coffee, and he switched seats to sit in the front.
He said disaster struck when the driver attempted to overtake a long trailer on a bridge.
According to him, the maneuver went horribly wrong, resulting in a violent crash that left multiple passengers injured and tragically killed his friend.
Nwobu recalled being trapped by his seatbelt, struggling to breathe as chaos erupted around him.
He said he witnessed friends with broken limbs and head injuries, while the driver repeatedly lost consciousness.
“I got a very important invitation. A project that can bring up the status of my friends and me. I was meant to go to Enugu for an advertisement for a real estate company. I saw it as a stepping stone for my career and my friends,” he said.
“I am making this video so that you know exactly what happened and how God saved everybody’s life, except one.
“So, my friends told me that they want to join me. At the very least, even if I cannot or they cannot afford the flight for them, let them enter Motu and come to Enugu. However, since they are my friends, and some of them have mentioned that they want to go to the East, at least to have some fun and return.
“Just the five of us. On that fateful day, we came. On the way, I started to feel a cough.
“While travelling, I woke up very early in the morning, and such a thing happened to me. So, we stopped somewhere and took a coffee. My friends, everybody stopped. Both the driver took a coffee. So, I decided to stay in the front of the seat because my friend had been sitting there before.
“I woke up and I saw my friends had woken up. I was wearing a seat belt. The thing nearly affected my wrist and my spinal cord because I was bending down like this on the car. The thing just bent me so hard.”
Nwobu said he shared his story to set the record straight and thank those who stood by him.
“So, I wanted to shout and tell people to come and help me. But each time I tried shouting, I felt as if I were losing my breath. I saw people dying in front of me,” he said.
“I saw a driver collapse and then wake up again. Collapsing and waking up again. I was looking at him in front of me. My friends were shouting. They could not move.
“Unfortunately, someone came and pulled out the seatbelt for me, cutting it down. So, my leg was stuck. That place that, you know, that spot. I noticed that my leg was stuck in that position. I can not move it out. So, it was one army man who forcefully pulled me out.”
