Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has been awarded a doctor of philosophy (PhD) in Christian theology from the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).
The ex-president defended his thesis before a six-man panel on Friday.
His thesis was entitled ‘Resolving the Unfinished Agenda in Liberation Theology: Leadership, Poverty, and Underdevelopment in North Eastern Nigeria’.
Obasanjo received the degree from the department of religious studies, faculty of arts, NOUN study center in Abeokuta, Ogun state.
Samaila Mande, who chaired the panel, said Obasanjo had satisfied the requirements for the award of PhD degree by the institution.
Obasanjo said his thesis were a combination of “enough study” and “intellectual rigours”.
Mande said the award would be celebrated during NOUN’s convocation.
