This, according to the scheme, is to keep up with the COVID-19 protocol of social and physical distancing to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus.

In a statement issued on Monday by Adenike Adeyemi, the scheme’s director of public relations, the NYSC also announced the cancellation of the passing-out ceremonial parade for the outgoing corps members.

It said the cancellation was due to the danger and threat posed by the killer virus. The event is slated to hold on May 28.

It also urged corps members who are currently not in their states of service not to violate the ban on inter-state journeys in a bid to collect their certificates.

The scheme added that those not present in their states of service should present themselves for collection of certificates immediately the ban is lifted.

“The passing out for the 2019 Batch B Stream 1 Corps Members has been slated nationwide for Thursday 28th, May 2020,” the statement read.

“As a precautionary measure, the distribution shall be staggered for a period of ten days in the first instance, in order to remove anxiety from the concerned corp members, in addition to making the activity seamless and less cumbersome.

“It is imperative to state that corp members who at present are not in their states of service need not violate the ban on inter-state journeys which is still in force.

“However, as soon as the ban is lifted and it is safe to travel, they are expected to go to their respective states of services to collect their certificate of national service (CNS).
