The scheme announced the latest development in its guidelines to 2023 Batch A stream II prospective corps members on Monday.

In the statement, the NYSC asked such prospective corps members to report to the nearest orientation camp in their state of deployment and apply for redeployment.

“All married female Prospective Corps members (PCMs) who are deployed to states where their husbands are not domiciled should report to the nearest NYSC Orientation Camp for their State of Deployment to be changed,” the statement reads.

“They are to report during the period of registration at the Orientation Camps with the copies of their marital and other relevant documents as evidence.”

The NYSC scheme was set up in 1973 during the military regime of Yakubu Gowon as an effort to reconcile and rebuild the country after the civil war.

In 2021, there was a widespread backlash when the house of representatives considered a bill seeking to scrap the scheme.

The constitution alteration bill seeks to repeal section 315 (5)(a) of the 1999 constitution which establishes the NYSC and its enabling act.

The bill was sponsored by Awaji-Inombek Abiante, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmaker from Rivers state.
