The Lagos chapter of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has appealed to Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governor, to increase the state’s allowance for corps members.


Yetunde Baderinwa, the state NYSC coordinator, spoke at the closing ceremony of the 2023 batch ‘A’ stream 1 orientation on Tuesday.

Baderinwa said increasing the allowance for corps members has become imperative due to the rising cost of living in Lagos and the economic situation in the country.

The state NYSC coordinator said such will also boost the enthusiasm of corps members to serve if implemented.


“It is on this note that I want to heartily request from Mr. Governor that given the state of the economy and the rising cost of living in Lagos state and indeed the whole world, to consider an increment of corps members’ allowances serving in the state,” she said.

“This will boost the enthusiasm of corps members, as  continue to be a reliable force driving, key areas of the economy.”

TheCable Lifestyle understands corps members working in public institutions in the state are given N15,000 monthly allowance by the state government.


In his remark, Sanwo-Olu called on corps members posted to the state to use their skills to improve society.

The governor, who was represented by Mobolaji Ogunlende, his special adviser on special duties, reiterated his administration’s commitment to ensure the corps members enjoy a conducive environment.
