The National University Commission (NUC) has granted approval for the University of Ilesa to run 32 courses for the 2023/2024 academic session.
The College of Education in Ilesa, Osun state was recently upgraded to the status of a university.
Ademola Adeleke, the governor of Osun, in a statement on Tuesday, said the institution will now commence at least 32 undergraduate programmes.
The upgrade, Adeleke said, is in tandem with a commitment he made during the electioneering period in 2018.
The governor said it is part of his pre-election decision to pursue international standards for the institution.
“During the 2018 electioneering campaign, I made a solemn pledge to the people of Ijesaland to elevate the College of Education, Ilesa to the status of the University of Ilesa,” he said.
“This promise was made at the revered Palace of the Kabiyesi Owa of Ijesaland.
“In our unwavering pursuit of international standards for this university, we have assembled a highly competent team fully committed to its development.
“I am elated to share that our policies and reforms for the institution have received a commendation from the Nigeria University Commission (NUC).
“The NUC has just recently granted approval for the launch of no less than 32 undergraduate courses at the university.
“This approval stands as yet another testament to our unrelenting efforts and steadfast dedication to offering world-class education.
“It aligns seamlessly with SDG Goal 4 (Quality Education) and forms a crucial component of our 5-point agenda.”
Adeleke said he is open to collaborating with all relevant stakeholders, both within and beyond the state, to ensure the resounding success of all educational initiatives and policies rolled out during his tenure.
