Nonso Amadi has been stripped of two Headies nominations after the organisers of the awards announced that they were given in error.

Amadi, who came to the spotlight courtesy of his hit single ‘Tonight’, was nominated in three categories.

According to Smooth Productions, ‘Tonight’ lost its two nominations “because it was released before the period under review”.

The singer was initially up for ‘best alternative act’, ‘best R&B single’ and ‘best vocal performance. With the revision, his only nomination is for ‘best alternative act’.

The  Headies also made a correction in the ‘best producer’ category.

The statement released on Wednesday read: “The Headies secretariat officially write to correct the following nominations which were given in error and are corrected as follows

‘Virtuous Woman’ by Flavour was produced by Cobhams not Mastakraft and Selebobo produced ‘Rara’, not Tekno.

‘Tonight’ by Nonso Amadi was removed from ‘Best RnB Single’ and ‘Best Vocal Performance (Male)’ categories because it was released before the period under review.

“Mastakraft’s nomination for Best Producer is ‘Yawa’ and ‘Augment’, while Cobhams is nominated for ‘Butterflies’ and ‘Virtuous Woman’.

“We apologise for the misinformation.”

The correction comes after Banky W, who was nominated alongside Amadi in two categories, expressed a desire to see the US-based singer win big at the Headies.
