The management of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has dismissed claim in some quarters that there was a kidnap attempt at the institution.
On Tuesday, a video had surfaced online showing security operatives at the institution arresting two young men who allegedly attempted to kidnap a female student.
Rumours had swirled that the kidnap attempt had come after the female student rejected the men’s advances.

But in a statement on Wednesday, the varsity said the incident was “a case of social misconduct and physical assault between students” not kidnap attempt as claimed.
The institution also said the matter is already being handled by its security as well as the students’ affairs units.
It called on parents and members of the public not to panic, adding that safety of the students remains a top priority of the management.
“The incident was a case of social misconduct and physical assault between students, in which one party attempted to flee the scene and was apprehended by the University security towards the Onike gate axis of the University. The case is being handled by the security unit and division of students affairs,” the statement read.
