Nigerians on Twitter have expressed their anger over the prosecution of Funke Akindele-Bello, Nollywood actress, for flouting the social distancing order, after a large number of people were seen at the funeral of Abba Kyari, Muhammadu Buhari’s chief of staff.

On April 7, the actress and her husband were sentenced to 14 days community service and a N100,000 fine each for violating social distancing laws, after she had hosted a house party at her residence in Lagos.

But on Sunday, a large number of people were also spotted at Kyari’s burial in Abuja, despite the presidency’s announcement of a private funeral.

The attendees also appeared to have stood close to each other — a clear violation of the social distancing directives.

This has since sparked angry reactions on Twitter where users have expressed their annoyance.

“I’m watching late Abba Kyari’s burial, live on TV. The Nigerian Govt should apologise to Funke Akindele and refund her money immediately,” a Twitter user said.

“Funke Akindele was arrested and arraigned for throwing a party in her house. Some politicians decided to organise a prayer session, hereby breaching the Presidential order & @NCDCgov guideline on social distancing, but no action will be taken because ‘proximity to power,” another user said.
