MultiChoice Nigeria has announced that the sixth edition of Nigerian Idol, the local version of the Idol series franchise, a reality television singing competition, will commence on March 14.
The company broke the news on Thursday at a virtual media briefing to officially unveil plans for the season six of the show.
It said the new season will premiere at 6pm on Sunday with a special airing of the most memorable moments from last year’s auditions to be shown on DStv Channel 198 and GOtv Channel 29.
It added that the main episodes will air weekly starting from March 28 at 7pm on Africa Magic Showcase, Urban and Family.
Speaking during the session, Martin Mabutho, MultiChoice Nigeria’s chief customer officer, said the sixth edition of the show will offer unique and entertaining content for the viewers.
Also speaking, Wangi Mba-Uzoukwu, Africa Magic’s channel director, revealed that over 3,600 entries were received for the sixth edition of the show.
“We believe that this season’s Nigerian Idol will produce a fresh crop of talent who will be well-grounded to conquer both the local and global music scene. This year, we received over 3,600 entries and I thank our outstanding judges for painstakingly reviewing every participant to ensure we got the best from the pool of entries,” Mba-Uzoukwu added.
This year’s edition will mark the return of the show after about a six-year hiatus.
Seyi Shay, DJ Sose, Obi Asika will serve as the judges for the new season with IK Osakioduwa, ace on-air-personality (OAP), enlisted as the host.
According to MultiChoice Nigeria, this year’s edition of the show will also be available in the United Kingdom, Italy, France, Australia and 23 other countries via online streaming service, Showmax.
