Pascal Atuma has been shortlisted as a finalist in the Just for Laughs Festival.
‘Sweet Revenge’ is now among the 10 films vying for the win.
Speaking with TheCable Lifestyle, Atuma said, “it is a privilege for the mainstream A class players to actually see your work and like it.”
“This is the dream, to play at this level where you make one film and it is accepted globally. I’m very happy,” he continued.
“When I received the challenge to come up with a story, I prayed and started writing.
“I wanted a multicultural story that will be funny based on situations and close to the immigrant experience. I wanted a universal story.
“My itch to make world-class movies that will be funny and at the same educative of different cultures and people inspired me.”
Some of the movies Atuma’s film will be going against are ‘Behind Closed Doors’ by Bianca Armbruster; ‘Curious Georgina’ by Feral Ozel; ‘Eat My Shorts’ by Eduard Witzke and ‘Fowl Play’ by Rachel Cairns and Brendan Jeffers.
Others are ‘Lyfe Crushers’ by Trevor Williams; ‘The Application’ by Brenda Saucedo; ‘The Call’ by Eric Toth; ‘The Prologue’ by Maxwell Michael Towson and ‘Worry Warts’ by Laura Rudnicki and Lexy Paul.
The final winner is expected to emerge through an online popularity vote by the number of likes on a film
The online voting by fans began July 14 and will end on July 17. The short films are available on Kevin Hart’s Laugh Out Loud’s YouTube page.
