A Nigerian is out to set a new world record for the longest video game marathon playing a hack-and-slash game.
The gamer, identified as Bolade Oghenevbayenrhe Bezi, her record will attempt to play God of War for 48 hours straight.
In a post on X, Bezi, who goes by the game tag Verde, argued that video games have a positive cognitive impact.
In a poster shared on her page, said her attempt aims to raise awareness for mental health, particularly depression and anxiety.
Bezi urged the public to support her as she embarks on the record attempt.
“Anecdotal evidence suggests that video games have been shown to impart cognitive benefits to those playing regularly, that is, attention, control, cognitive flexibility, and processing,” the poster reads.
“Hello, my name is Bolade Oghenevbayenrhe Bezi. I am a gamer (gamer tag VERDE) and a physiologist.
“I am attempting a Guinness World Record for the longest video game marathon playing a hack-and-slash game.
“I am doing this in a bid to raise awareness for mental health, especially in relation to depression and anxiety, which are the two prevalent mental disorders.
“In this light, I seek your full support and assistance to make this a huge reality. Thank you.”
However, it remains unclear whether Bezi has received approval from Guinness World Records for the attempt.
She has also yet to announce the date and location for the gaming marathon.
To succeed in her attempt, Bezi must surpass the record set by Peer Bresser and Jimmie Smets.
The duo achieved the feat in 2017 after playing Diablo III for 24 hours and 25 minutes.
