Some Nigerian celebrities have taken their social media pages to express their anger over the recent detention of Omah Lay and Tems by the authorities in Uganda.

The two fast-rising Nigerian singers were arraigned and detained on Monday for flouting COVID-19 protocols in the country.

TheCable Lifestyle had reported how they were arrested for involving in an unauthorised concert that held on Saturday night in Ddungu Resort in Munyonyo, Kampala City.

In a statement, the Ugandan police said its previous plans to release the suspects on bail were suspended after their casefile was sanctioned by the office of the director of public prosecutions (DPP).

The suspects will be remanded in custody until December 16, 2020, the police added.

This has since sparked angry reactions on Twitter where users have called for the immediate release of the singers, with different hashtags such as #FreeOmahLay and #FreeTems already trending.

“We need to know why Omah Lay, Tems and Muyiwa Awomiyi are in custody in Uganda!! How do you invite Nigerian Artistes to your country and detain them?? Uganda government, pls come correct!! Don’t use our Artists to play politics,” Mr Macaroni wrote on Twitter.
