The rearrest of Omoyele Sowore, convener of the #RevolutionNow protest, by the Department of State Services (DSS), has provoked outrage among Nigerian celebrities on social media.
On Thursday, the court ordered the DSS to release Sowore within 24 hours. He was later released in the evening of the same day.
But on Friday, the DSS stormed the federal high court in Abuja, disrupted Sowore’s trial in a move that resulted in commotion, and eventually rearrested him, as against a subsisting court order.
The topic about his rearrest has since dominated the conversation on social media especially Twitter, where it currently sits top of the trend list.
Quite a number of celebrities have also registered their annoyance.
“I swore off politics because l am done with popular cyclic trauma vouyerism and addition to performance of woe- mongering. However, this Sowore situation is crazier than usual. Why is he such a threat and to whom?,” Funmi Iyanda asked.
Davido condemned the arrest, stating that there is no “justice in the country” anymore.
“Justice slowly becoming a thing of the past n our dear country. A kid somewhere in Nigeria dreaming of becoming a lawyer and bettering the community would see this and start having doubts. Just sad,” he said.
Banky W also expressed his anger, brandishing the rearrest as “blatant abuse of human rights”.
“This brings shame to our fragile Democracy. This is an absolute disgrace to our country & a blatant abuse of human rights. It doesn’t matter whether you agree with Sowore’s political ambitions or not. This is a new low, even for us. @MBuhari please surprise us & do the right thing,” he wrote.

Is sowores case now "charge as you go"?
At a point even a bully will get tired of being called bad names and do things to redeem his/her image. Smh https://t.co/O31tt2ClGc— RUGGEDMAN (@RuggedyBaba) December 6, 2019

Whatever claims held against sowore, is public humiliation punishment? If yes, is he being punished before conviction of whatever claims laid against him?
Is there a document showing why?

Is somebody getting ‘kidnapped’ inside a courtroom? I wonder the kind of technology used in this video. 🤔 Anyway, let’s be patient till the right people are ‘aware’ of this matter. It’s all #lovespeech from here. 😁❤️🤷🏽♂️ https://t.co/3iFGaV6oo6

We are in serious trouble ooo…if the DSS can do this in broad daylight…with everyone recording and posting on social media, imagine what they would do if they can regulate social media!!
They have plans…vile vile plans…and it’s up to us to scatter their plans…— Mc LIVELY (@mc_lively_) December 6, 2019
