‘A Trip to Jamaica’, the second movie produced by Ayo Makun, has grossed an estimated N168 million in Nigerian cinemas two months after being released.
This was made known on Sunday by Moses Babatope, executive director of Film One Distribution at the signature lounge of Filmhouse Imax Cinemas, Lekki, Lagos.
Babatope informed those present that A Trip to Jamaica had beaten the box office revenues of all the big budget Hollywood movies released in 2016.
The movies eclipsed by A Trip to Jamaica include; Batman vs Superman, Captain America, Suicide Squad, London has Fallen, Gods of Egypt, Transporter, Doctor Strange, Tarzan, Magnificent 7 and Central Intelligence.
According to Babatope, A Trip to Jamaica is the first film to make N35 million in its first weekend and also the first film to gross N62 million in its first week.
He further noted that the movie is currently the fastest film to rake in N100m in 17 days as well as the fastest to make N150m in six weeks.
AY Makun was the lead actor in A Trip To Jamaica which was directed by Robert O. Peters and distributed by FilmOne Distribution Limited.
Funke Akindele, Jenifa star, was Makun’s love interest in the comedy movie.
