Kenneth Petty, the husband of Nicki Minaj, the Trinidad-born rapper, has been sentenced to a year of home detention for failing to register as a sex offender.
The 44-year-old, who pleaded guilty to failing to register last year, was given a one-year home detention term, three years of probation, and ordered to pay a fine of $55,000 (£46,000) by a federal judge on Wednesday.
Petty was convicted of rape in New York in 1995. He, however, failed to register within the required five days after moving to California with Nicki Minaj in 2019.
The US law states that registered sex offenders have five days to update their details if their residence changes.
Petty and Minaj started dating in 2018. It is understood that they have known each other since childhood.
In 2019, the lovebirds got married. The union is now blessed with a son.
Shortly after the sentencing, Nicki Minaj took to her Instagram page to share a photo of her husband and son.

Last year, the couple were accused of attempting to silence a rape assault victim.
A lady filed a lawsuit claiming that they harassed her to try to make her retract her allegations.
