Last week was eventful in showbiz. TheCable Lifestyle examines the top entertainment stories that got tongues wagging in the past seven days.
TEMS GRAMMY WIN
The Afrobeats singer won the ‘Best Melodic Rap Performance’ category on Sunday night for her role in ‘Wait for U’, the 2022 hit song by Future featuring Drake.
Tems and Burna Boy were the only Nigerian artistes nominated for the 2023 edition of the Grammy Awards.
Burna Boy, on the other hand, lost the ‘Best Global Music Album’ and the ‘Best Global Music Performance’ categories.
The year’s Grammy Awards ceremony was held at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
MR IBU, HIS WIFE, AND HIS ADOPTED DAUGHTER SETTLE BITTER FEUD
Stella Maris, the wife of Mr. Ibu, the Nollywood actor, called him out over alleged domestic violence.
On Friday, Maris claimed Mr Ibu was having an affair with Jasmine, the actor’s adopted daughter.
She also accused the actor of neglecting her and their children.
But in a video shared on social media on Saturday, the trio could be seen in a jolly mood while apologising to each other.
“Yesterday (Friday), my memory was not complete, but now, it is complete. Don’t mind my memory; it does not make sense,” the actor said.
On her part, Stella admitted that “Jasmine Chioma is my daughter and my husband’s daughter.”
YUL EDOCHIE PLAYS PETER OBI
The Nollywood actor played the role of Peter Obi, the Nigerian presidential candidate, in a new satirical film.
The film star put out a trailer for the movie titled ‘Peter Obi’ in which he teased scenes where he does an exaggerated imitation of the former Anambra governor’s voice.
The movie focuses on the life of the ex-governor who has come under criticism for his prudence in his quest to rule.
ACTRESS GRILLED BY EFCC
Oluwadarasimi Omoseyin, the actress, was in the public eye following her arrest on Wednesday by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) for selling the new naira notes on social media.
On Friday, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) branch in Lagos said it had taken over the investigation of the actress for allegedly tampering with the redesigned naira notes.
The EFCC also vowed that “the suspect will be charged to court once investigations have been concluded.”
Azuka Ogugua, the ICPC spokesperson, had said the serial entrepreneur colluded with “key elements” in the financial sector to divert the new notes and sell them in the black market.
DAVIDO TO RETURN IN MARCH WITH NEW ALBUM
Israel ‘DMW’ Afeare, Davido’s logistics manager, hinted that the singer’s new album will be released in March.
He also asked Davdo’s fans to anticipate the song which he described as a “banger”.
Israel DMW is one of the closest associates of the music star.
Davido has been sparsely seen on social media since the shocking death of Ifeanyi, his three-year-old son.
Ifeanyi’s death on October 30 led to Davido and Chioma Rowland’s break from social media for weeks.
They were not seen in public until the singer shared loved-up photos with Chioma before his performance at the closing ceremony of the 2022 FIFA World on December 18.
