Missing UniAbuja student died in car crash, says family

Murjanatu Zubairu, a 400-level female student of the University of Abuja (UniAbuja) who was declared missing on Friday, has died in a car accident along the Lugbe – Airport Road, Abuja.

The Department of Arts Education student was said to have left home for school but was declared missing until Monday — when she was found dead.

According to Daily Trust, Zubairu Yewuti, the student’s uncle, said the girl’s parents had called him to know her whereabouts after efforts to reach her telephone failed.

The family had reported the missing girl to the university management and security agencies while requesting public information about her whereabouts.

Yewuti, who is also a former vice chairman of Kwali Area Council of the FCT, however, said the family discovered that she died in a road accident last Friday.

The uncle also revealed that the remains of Murjanatu have been deposited at the UniAbuja Teaching Hospital morgue.

“They visited the mortuary at the University of Abuja, Teaching Hospital where her corpse was found,” he said.

Yewuti added that the family is arranging to retrieve the student’s body from the mortuary for proper burial.

Sunday Ajokotola, a commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), said the accident occurred at about 8 pm and involved a Toyota Sharon bus near the Dunamis Church along the Airport Road.

Ajokotola said the accident claimed the lives of four persons including the student.

“Before our rescue team arrived at the scene, six people among the 10 inside the bus that sustained burns were rescued by the Airforce personnel who were treated in their hospital,” the FRSC commander said.

“Our men arrived at the scene and evacuated the four others including a female that got burnt beyond recognition to the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital’s morgue in Gwagwalada on that same Friday night.”
