Mercy Eke, the 2019 Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) winner, has opened up on the struggles she faced running a business in Nigeria.
Speaking in a recent episode of Lilian’s Couch podcast, Eke said she almost ended her clothing business amid the challenges.
The reality TV star said at the time, the amount of money she was spending was more than what she was realising from the business.
“Paying service charge. Paying seven million for one small place. You can’t even order things because of customs duties,” she said.
Eke said due to the situation, it was difficult for her to pay salaries and foot other utility bills in her company.
“If I had known I wouldn’t have rushed into the business,” she added.
The brand influencer said her aim of starting a business is not just about making money but to help the average Nigerian.
“It’s not about making money from it. It is just about doing what you love to do. I know one day it will pay off,” she said.
Eke also appreciated her friends who stood by her during her tough moment.
“I have known my friends for like ten to fifteen years. They’ve seen me when I was a nobody and when things were rosy,” she said.
“It is these your friends that will be there. It is these your friends that will check on you.”
