Poju Oyemade, the senior pastor of the Covenant Christian Centre in Lagos, has countered a claim that Mercy Chinwo charges N10 million to perform in churches.

Fada Oluoma, the Catholic priest, earlier argued that gospel singers like Chinwo now charge millions to sing in churches.

“How much does a gospel artiste of Mercy Chinwo status charge to come to an event or a church? How much do you think she will collect? It has reached N10 million,” he said.

“These are the trajectories that we have turned Christianity into. An artiste will come to church and lead praise worship for N10 million, N5 million. So, if that particular artiste does not sing ‘Jesus you love me too much’ that means Jesus no love you too much?”

Although Chinwo is yet to react to the allegation — as of the time of this report — Oyemade took to Twitter to speak of the singer’s recent visit to his church.

The cleric said he invited the gospel singer to his church last Sunday to perform.

He said Chinwo was given honorarium at the church’s discretion after her performance.

Oyemade added that the gospel artiste made “no formal charges”.

“Mercy Chinwo @MMercychinwo sang at our service at Lekki last Sunday and the honorarium we gave was at our discretion. She made NO formal charges,” Oyemade wrote.
