Samuel Jemitalo, the Nigerian actor, says the insistence on only one wife is responsible for the rising cases of infidelity among men in contemporary marriages.

Jemitalo was reflecting on the controversy trailing Yul Edochie’s second marriage in a post via his Instagram page.

Edochie stunned many of his followers on Wednesday when he unveiled Judy Muoghalu as his second wife as well as their baby.

Until his latest post, the actor was known to be married to May Aligwe with whom he has three sons and a daughter.

The development has continued to stir discussions on social media, with many Nigerians expressing mixed views.

Joining the fray, Jemitalo argued that such a trend would continue until women start allowing their husbands to take a second wife.

Buttressing his argument, the actor claimed cheating among men was not rampant in the past because their wives embrace polygamy.

“Men cheating with side chicks today is rampant because the modern wife wouldn’t allow her husband to bring a second wife home,” he wrote.

“In the days of our forefathers, they converted their side chicks to house wives, that is why most of them were polygamous and there was no case of cheating.

“If the modern woman permits second wife, the cases of men cheating inside marriage will become history.”
